A Comparison of Exxon and Chevron - 1707 Words
Executive Summary Exxon and Chevron are no doubt some of the leading incorporated oil companies on the globe. Exxon Corp. is the second largest oil firm after Royal Dutch Shell, it is respected for getting the biggest revenue return in 2008 which no company in the U.S. have ever reported before. According to Wilson (2009) Chevron has managed to show a lot of profitability in the market despite the decease in its oil production. It graded as one of firms which made a billion dollars profit within a week in the period of July to September 2008. Regardless of profitability trends set by the two oil firms in the U.S. market, they have been facing financial decline like the rest of the companies in other industries. The two firms are like two sailing ships which are taking longer time to sink. In the last few years, the production capacity of Chevron and Exxon has decreased and their listings on the stock market have become weak. The continuation of construction and drilling which requires billions of doll ars in expense of oil production might make them experience a bigger financial crisis (Wilson, 2009). Exxon and Chevron are so different in a number of ways. When you compare Chevron to Exxon, Chevron is a smaller firm. The ratios of Exxon are relatively larger than Chevrons. Nevertheless, Chevron has a got a wide net working capital and market ratio than its counterpart Exxon. This therefore, means that because its larger networking capital, Chevron needs a lot of moneyShow MoreRelatedEssay on Exxon Mobil and Chevron Financial Performance2071 Words à |à 9 Pagesexxon mobil and chevron Exxon Mobil and Chevron Financial Performance Understanding the key ratios of a company is very important for investors. The Atomic Bomb Changed The Course Of History - 740 Words
The atomic bomb changed the course of history, saving the U.S. from losing to Japan. This bomb had an impact on the world both metaphorically and physically. No such weapon had combined science and technology so smoothly other than the device that, ever since its creation, blew away Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On August 2, 1939, Einstein proposed an interesting to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. This idea, called the atomic bomb, would change the lives of everyone. Making it was easier said than done, though. They needed a team of scientists: Robert Oppenheimer, David Bohm, Leo Szilard, Eugene Wigner, Felix Bloch, Otto Prisch, Rudolf Peierls, Niels Bohr, Emilio Segre, James Franck, Enrico Fermi, Klaus Fuchs, and Edward Teller. Then they had to find U-235, which looked exactly like U-238, a useless material. The process was hard, especially since only mechanical methods worked. Finally, after an extraction system, a magnetic separation, and a gas centrifuge, all that was needed to be done was to test the entire concept in the deserts of Jornada del Muerto (about money). The Gadget was quickly put together. Upon detonating, the white blaze shot through the still-dark sky, slowly transforming into an orange ball of fire shooting up 360 feet per second. The mushroom cloud took form at 30,000 feet. Beneath the grim cloud, all that remained in the soil at the blast site were fragments of jade green radioactive glass created by the heat of the reaction (about money). Question: Discuss about theSAP Accounting Software. Answer: Introduction: In order to maintain the overall financial matters of the organization, it is very much important or rather significant for enterprises to implement certain accounting software packages and maintain chronological records the respective transactions. Furthermore, with the help of accounting software or packages, enterprises would be able to calculate the financial performance of the organization and analyze the net position in the market place. Relating the same with the subject matter, the following study would highlight the history, development, and adaptation of SAP which is basically enterprise resource planning software and manage the business operations in an appropriate manner. Thus, the study would also highlight the market size and loop hole s present under the same. History: SAP was established by German multinational organization which enables the organization to maintain a smooth balance between business operations and customer relations. Currently, the company is providing support in more than 130 countries and earns revenue of more than 20 billion each financial year (Blain, 2016). Furthermore, SAP was founded by Dietmar Hopp, Hans-Werner Hector, and two others in 1972 and is delivering services to all over the globe. Elaborating more about the same, apart from considering the parameters of enterprise resource planning, the software is also meant to restructure the corporate affairs and contribute towards the betterment of the enterprise in terms of maintenance of records or affairs. While the primary version of the above mentioned accounting software or package is recognized by SAP R/98, in 1992 SAP R/3 was introduced with better stability, and accounting features. Thus, the shares of the enterprise are listed at Frankfurt Stock Exchange and New Yor k Stock Exchange. Development: Over the years, the organization is constantly developing the features of SAP for ensuring better performance of the organization in terms of chronological records and account maintenance (Buying financial accounting software, 2015). Some of the major development is mentioned below: Inclusion of IBM platform to enhance the services of many corporate Possibility of workload profiles to maintain healthy relationship between processes or procedures Implementation of multiple database system to contribute towards better execution of administrative obligations or tasks Data backup plan has been improved to provide more value to the precious data or information of the organization Expansion towards clouds to provide more storage and maintain stability in terms of maintenance along with easy access Implementation of modern applications to promote the independently of data or information Thus, all the above developments were implemented for the betterment of the organization and for enhancing the trust of the needful parties and enhancing the goodwill of the organization in the market place (Ciftci, 2010). Adoption: Since it is mandatory for both profitable and non-profitable organization to maintain chronological records of the activities, adoption of SAP is required for both of them so to remain valid in the eye of law. Furthermore, since the overall structure of SAP is divided into different modules such as sales and business intelligence, each and every organization after considering its requirement implement the SAP in an appropriate way. Moreover, it has been observed that adoption of SAP is increasing year by year because of the enhancement of the number of incorporations of organization in the current market place. Thus with the increasing benefits and continuous development of the above mentioned accounting and enterprise software, more than 60% of both financial and non-financial organization who is in need of accounting software or packages is implementing or considering SAP over its rivals or competitors (Franks, 2012). Current Market Size: As mentioned above, since SAP considers all the parameters of business and pay huge amount of attention towards the customer relations, it is not to be mentioned that the market size of the same is enhancing each financial year by three folds. While the competitors of SAP such as Oracle, Sage, Infor etc is existing in the market place with 6 to 12%, SAP is dominating all of them with huge 24% of share in the market place as stated below. Figure 1: Market Share of SAP Source: https://technologyadvice.com/ Furthermore, with positive feedbacks from all over the globe, the performance of the organization even in this fast and dynamic environment is increasing systematically and the path of the enterprise is headed towards profitable yet positive vision or mission. Moreover, it can easily be said that SAP with its utmost benefits and limited restrictions is becoming one of the favorites and preferable accounting software or packages for organization incorporated or enterprise going to be incorporated (McGee, 2015). Identification of Leaders in the Market: While SAP is considered as the most dominating leader in terms of accounting software or packages, some other companies which too are fighting with equal credibility and efficiency are Oracle which is basically engage in the collection and retrieving of data or information from relevant sources and contributing towards identifying the appropriate solutions of the information management. Founded in 1977, the organization is earning in billions each financial year and is registered under New York Stock Exchange. Thus, just like SAP, Oracle too provides data base services all over the globe and contribute towards the betterment of the organization in the market place. Elaborating more about the same Infor ERP services are considered as remarkable and are known for their positive goodwill and services in the market place. This company was established in 2002 and is providing services to all over the globe for the activities of enterprise resource engagements (Meissner, 2012). Thus, with operating income in billions, the organization too can be considered as one of the competitors of SAP and leader in enterprise resource planning industry. Thus, both Oracle and Infor can be considered as good performer in the accounting software or packages industry and are satisfying millions of customers during each financial year. However, services and goodwill of SAP compare to that of competitors are much high standard and extra ordinary. Uniqueness of SAP: The major reason behind the increased performance of SAP as compare to their competitors and the basis of gaining competitive advantage is mentioned below: Integration of accounting and enterprise resource planning software: While all the above mentioned competitors are efficient towards providing enterprise resource planning activities, SAP on the other hand is highly efficient and effective in integrating the accounting software along with the parameters of enterprise resource planning to gain competitive advantage over its rivals (Muggridge and Trott, 2014). By implementing SAP as an accounting software and enterprise resource software, organizations do not need any other software or package and as a result the company majority customers or users from the market place. Thus, combination of accounting and enterprise resource software is one of the major uniqueness of SAP which differentiates it from its competitors. Optimization as per the Size of the Organization: Also, SAP can be optimized as per the different size of the organization which can either be small, medium, or large. Thus, by designing the software for each type of organization, the company is leading in the market place and gaining competitive edge over its rivals or competitors (Niefert, 2011). Limitations of SAP: Since there are two sides of a coin, apart from the benefits and unique features as mentioned above, the software package is also comprises of some limitations or disadvantages which are mentioned below: High Cost: Even though SAP can be optimized depending on the scale of the organization, it would certainly not be feasible for small and medium size organization to bear such huge cost in order to perform the accounting and enterprise resource planning activities. Not user friendly: In order to implement the enterprise resource planning software in an appropriate way, it is relevant for all types of organization to recruit some qualified professionals as the features of SAP are not very friendly and requires great knowledge and experience to operate it (Zencke and Eichin, 2013). Compatibility Issues: Also, there are many applications of SAP which are not supported by all browsers and as a result compatibility issues come into picture which further also affects the response time between the front desk and back desk. Apart from the limitations mentioned above, it has been observed that many SAP applications are not successful and are enhancing the overall performance of the organization along with the downfall of enterprise portal of many organizations. Thus, if the budget of the organization is high and professionals are qualified enough to manage the SAP applications in an appropriate manner, than this accounting software or package is the best available enterprise resource planning tool in the market place. Conclusion: The above study simply highlights the over the top performance of SAP with limited restriction and disadvantages in the market place. Organizations coming from any scale can implement SAP to manage the business operations in an appropriate way and enhance the relationship with the customers all over the globe. Moreover, integration of accounting and enterprise resource planning feature helps the organization to gain competitive advantage in global market place (Zencke and Eichin, 2013). Internal Assessment Essay Example For Students
Internal Assessment Essay Allow me to start you off with a question. Isnt it hard to comprehend the idea of a novel, without any characters? Think a second. Well yes. There will be no dialogue, no experiences hence no story to convey, and no novel to start with. Therefore characters are one of the most necessary elements of a novel; and this is what this oral presentation will scrutinize. This oral presentation aims to answer these questions during the process: how are the characters presented on paper, how do may the readers interpret the characters, what are the purposes of the characters and their actions. These questions will refer to the three main characters, Jimmy, Crake and Oryx, found in the novel Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood; portraying a dystopic world in our near future. Jimmy is the main character of the novel. The author presents Jimmy to us at the beginning of the book as a naked and ruined man, which has somehow survived a disaster of some sort. He is a vulnerable creature that has managed to stay alive in a new dangerous and vicious ecosystem. It is evident that Jimmy is a weak organism of this ecosystem from how Jimmys skin is full of bug bites, his sensitivity against the bright sun, the lack of food and the fact that he has to sleep in tree to be safe from creature crawling under him during the night. Jimmy renames himself as the Abominable Snowman after surviving human extinction. However he changes it to snowman thinking he will melt into nothingness similar to a real snowman. Snowman is presented as an inferior of the environment. He was also a weak individual in society as a child. Jimmy found it hard to form connections with other humans. The most important reasons for this is Jimmys parents not spending any time with him, even when it was Jimmys birthday, and his mother abandoning Jimmy to engage in anti-compound activities. Jimmy tries to make friends by performing small funny shows of his parents fighting at school. Nevertheless he still lacks the ability to form true friendships. The readers can easily observe the different stages of Jimmys life and how he develops through the years. Jimmy suffers similar to any average person today will suffer from a dysfunctional family. There are no exaggerations. Even when Jimmy gets into a relation with his true love, Oryx, he continues having difficulty empathizing. Jimmy cant prevent himself from searching into Oryxs past although she refuses. Small details similar to this add the extra realism to this character; allowing the reader to easily connect to the story through this realistic character. Jimmy continues to develop. After the disaster, although he had a great talent for language and word usage, Jimmy encounters problems recalling the fancy words he once knew and loved; allowing the reader to fully understand the consequences of the disaster on Jimmy, both physically and mentally. Jimmy accurately fills the purpose of portraying an average person struggling to survive in harsh conditions. Bringing the theme survival up to surface. Also the novel is told from the depth of Jimmys mind. Allowing the reader to further know how this character thinks and moves helping the author portray a realistic character that the story can be revolved around. Crake is one of the antagonists of the novel. Crake, previously known as Glenn, is Jimmys only friend and vice versa. Crake impresses Jimmy with his ability to make impressions of teachers. He is also very intelligent; intelligent enough to attend the prestigious Watson-Crick institute. Glenn is first presented to us as a silent and intellectual teenager. A good example to show his cleverness is when Crake calculates the position of the mans hand in there teachers jacket at the mall. It is on page 85. Both Glenn and Jimmy do what average teenagers do: they play a great deal of video games, watch violent movies and even watch porn together. Glenn acts similar to an average teenager however he lacks the emotions and tenderness. Nonetheless he possesses a strong logic. Glenn only operates from logical theorems like robots we see in science fiction. .ud437a58ed4bfbb234fd6fe58f5057250 , .ud437a58ed4bfbb234fd6fe58f5057250 .postImageUrl , .ud437a58ed4bfbb234fd6fe58f5057250 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ud437a58ed4bfbb234fd6fe58f5057250 , .ud437a58ed4bfbb234fd6fe58f5057250:hover , .ud437a58ed4bfbb234fd6fe58f5057250:visited , .ud437a58ed4bfbb234fd6fe58f5057250:active { border:0!important; } .ud437a58ed4bfbb234fd6fe58f5057250 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ud437a58ed4bfbb234fd6fe58f5057250 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ud437a58ed4bfbb234fd6fe58f5057250:active , .ud437a58ed4bfbb234fd6fe58f5057250:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ud437a58ed4bfbb234fd6fe58f5057250 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ud437a58ed4bfbb234fd6fe58f5057250 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ud437a58ed4bfbb234fd6fe58f5057250 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ud437a58ed4bfbb234fd6fe58f5057250 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ud437a58ed4bfbb234fd6fe58f5057250:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ud437a58ed4bfbb234fd6fe58f5057250 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ud437a58ed4bfbb234fd6fe58f5057250 .ud437a58ed4bfbb234fd6fe58f5057250-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ud437a58ed4bfbb234fd6fe58f5057250:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Journeys end is a play that has been successful for over 70 years EssayWhen Jimmy and Glenn start playing a game called Extinctathon, Glenn adopts the name Crake (name of an extinct red necked Australian bird). Foreshadowing his, own extinction in near the end of the novel. Although his name changes Crake doesnt develop through the novel. Crake continues depending only on pure logic at every aspect of life and lacks the human emotions. Crake is blinded from his desire to carry out his logical theorems and kills all of humanity including him. No normal human being can ever dare to think of an action like this. Crake lacks the realism that Jimmy possesses. Most readers will identify Glenn as the most intelligent kid in class who always has something clever to say. I heard that most people think that Jimmys and Crake friendship is improbable. The mentality is that people become friends with people as same as them, intelligent with intelligent, sporty people with sporty people etc. However I think, Jimmy and Crake a perfect match. Both of them have parents that dont interact with them much. Jimmys mother abandons him and his father barely calls with him, only spends his time with his new wife. A similar template can be seen with Crakes parents with slight differences, his mother doesnt talk much and he has a stepfather Uncle Pete. Besides their similarity of their family relations, there are their differences that attract them closer like the different poles of a magnet. For some their difference in intelligence is a negative factor in their friendship. However, this difference allows the each of them to learn different aspects of life; making their friendship more interesting and causing them to connect more. This is the role of Crake in the book. Allowing the author to write an interesting story of Jimmys childhood, showing the how the families of the future are going to be corrupt. Crake also fills in the role of causing the biggest conflict in the book, the extinction of human kind. Finally there is the beautiful Oryx. She is the only female character from our three main. In the book she is described to have a triangular face, like that of a Siamese cat. The good friends Jimmy and Crake first see her in pornography movie, wearing a garland of flowers and a pink hair ribbon. Before all these Oryx used to live in a poor village as a small child, later being sold to a child trader. She is first thought to sell flowers to tourists then to seduce old man into a trap. Afterwards she starts playing in porn movies. Then she meets Crake through the students services of Watson-Crick. Oryx is very unique character. She is the furthest from average human features. Oryx is extremely adaptive to any condition. She manages to look at the bright side of everything. She believes anything said to hear. Seem is as if she is only programmed to follow orders. Uncle En tells her to go to the hotel room with the man, she doesnt refuse. She doesnt have the ability to oppose. Life isnt about herself it is about the people around her. For example, although she loves Jimmy she still cant breakup with Crake just because she thinks Crake is doing something to change the world and that she shouldnt break his feelings and help him as much as possible. There a few key roles Oryx carries out in the novel. First of course she portrays the horrible events like child trading in the novels dystopic world. Second she becomes the only girl that Jimmy has feelings for. Bringing out his inner emotions to surface allowing him to develop. Finally, she forms the love triangle between the three characters. Actually it is more similar to a v shape where Oryx is the point of the shape. This produces a new conflict: a conflict for Jimmy to win his true love entirely from Crake. Another would be Oryx having to choose one of the two. However Oryx isnt in a state of conflict, when any normal person should. This leaves the character incomplete and alien to readers. .u63296ac2e5f9defdd9b73b2bbaedd5b7 , .u63296ac2e5f9defdd9b73b2bbaedd5b7 .postImageUrl , .u63296ac2e5f9defdd9b73b2bbaedd5b7 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u63296ac2e5f9defdd9b73b2bbaedd5b7 , .u63296ac2e5f9defdd9b73b2bbaedd5b7:hover , .u63296ac2e5f9defdd9b73b2bbaedd5b7:visited , .u63296ac2e5f9defdd9b73b2bbaedd5b7:active { border:0!important; } .u63296ac2e5f9defdd9b73b2bbaedd5b7 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u63296ac2e5f9defdd9b73b2bbaedd5b7 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u63296ac2e5f9defdd9b73b2bbaedd5b7:active , .u63296ac2e5f9defdd9b73b2bbaedd5b7:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u63296ac2e5f9defdd9b73b2bbaedd5b7 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u63296ac2e5f9defdd9b73b2bbaedd5b7 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u63296ac2e5f9defdd9b73b2bbaedd5b7 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u63296ac2e5f9defdd9b73b2bbaedd5b7 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u63296ac2e5f9defdd9b73b2bbaedd5b7:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u63296ac2e5f9defdd9b73b2bbaedd5b7 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u63296ac2e5f9defdd9b73b2bbaedd5b7 .u63296ac2e5f9defdd9b73b2bbaedd5b7-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u63296ac2e5f9defdd9b73b2bbaedd5b7:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Pretty Horses EssayTo conclude, all three of the characters are different from each other: Jimmy is the closest representation of us humans, Crake is what robot are like in humans destroying humans thinking they are imperfect, and Oryx is the naà ¯Ã ¿Ã ½ve beautiful girl that follows anyone that sound convincing. Crake and Oryx may lack the humanlike features; however they have important drives to fulfill. This novel wouldnt be what it is without them. Nonetheless Jimmy is the strongest and most entertaining character in the Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood. Throughout the presentation I tried to give a brief background of the characters, how many readers might interpret these characters, and their roles in the novel. Every individual reads and understand differently. Of course, literature pieces are always debatable. Now if there is any question please feel free and thank you listening.
